Ghosts of Wales podcast

At the start of 2020, Mark Rees launched the world’s first podcast dedicated to weird and wonderful Welsh ghost stories, folklore, myths and legends.

By combining Mark’s research and insights from his books and articles with long-lost tales from dusty old tomes, it takes a unique look at countless curious subjects that hold a fascination for inquisitive minds.

From real-life encounters with pesky poltergeists to fantastical beasts from the Mabinogion, it quickly established itself as one of the most-downloaded paranormal podcasts with a dedicated following of global listeners.

If proof were needed that there’s an appetite for these yarns outside of the confines of Wales, at the time of writing the largest demographic of Ghosts of Wales fans are tuning in are from America (thank you, America!).

The Ghosts & Folklore of Wales podcast delves into a different strange subject every Thursday, ranging from folkloric favourites like the Mari Lwyd to more obscure accounts of strange hauntings.

Ghosts of Wales by Mark Rees

“Most haunted” books by Mark Rees

The first Ghosts of Wales book was published in 2017 from The History Press. Entitled Ghosts of Wales: Accounts from the Victorian Archives, it investigates more than 50 real-life cases from the 19th century. You can have a taste of some of these long-lost tales on the Ghosts & Folklore of Wales podcast.

The most recent collection of spooky tales from Mark Rees is Paranormal Wales, published in 2020 by Amberley Publishing. It’s available now from all good bookshops and online from the books section.

Spooky live events and paranormal parties

Mark hosted the first Ghosts of Wales – Live! event in 2017, which has since become an annual tradition – well, except for 2020, that is.

These “paranormal parties” involve a host of eerie entertainments, including storytelling, ghost hunting and even a spot of spooky dancing.

Sadly, all events are on-hold for the moment, but be sure to keep your eye on the events page or social media for any updates.

Oh, and check out the online “virtual book launch” for Paranormal Wales this Halloween!
