Penllergare Valley Woods | Ghosts & Folklore of Wales

The Paranormal Unpacked team – Steve Balsamo, Ant Jones and myself – are currently investigating Penllergare Valley Woods, Swansea, for our Halloween special, and I decided to film a little behind-the-scenes video to explore some of the folklore and ghost stories of this amazing place.

Penllergare was the home of the Dillwyn Llewellyn family, pioneers of photography in Wales, and the woods are full of places just perfect for a photographer from almost any century – shadowy corners, ancient trees, fantastical sculptures, and wildlife in the trees and on the water.

After an extra creamy pumpkin spice latte – the best in Wales? – we check out the mysterious Goblin Tree, walk the path said to be traversed by the ghostly horseman (sadly not a headless horseman), explore a Victorian bamboo maze (it’s bonkers) and seek out the Welsh fairy folk, y Tylwyth Teg – in particular, yr Ellyllon and the Gwragedd Annwn.

Oh, and Steve Balsamo treats us to a little singing again – Duran Duran, anyone?

So come with me for a wander around one of Wales’ most beautiful – and, some say, Swansea’s spookiest – woodlands.

Until next time… nos da!
